Quantification of Surface Water-Driven Ice Shelf Mass Loss around Antarctica
Overview:
Understanding the processes that govern the release of meltwater from Antarctica into the Southern Ocean is crucial for reducing uncertainties in climate projections. In this project, we analyze satellite and modeling data to quantify mass loss driven by solar-heated surface water – a frequently overlooked process in ice shelf-ocean interaction studies.
Project focus:
- Testing various multivariate analysis methods on existing datasets
- Quantification of mass loss driven by surface water
- Mapping affected areas to estimate future impacts
